Background

Tony Nguyen is an Associate in Fish & Richardson’s Houston office. Tony’s practice focuses on patent litigation before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and in Federal District Courts, particularly in the areas of computer hardware and software. For example, Tony’s experience includes cases involving graphic processing, memory systems, high-performance computing, digital signal processing in digital televisions, and various consumer electronics.

Tony has litigated numerous ITC investigations from pre-suit diligence through the hearing and is well-versed in navigating these complicated, fast-paced investigations. Tony has worked extensively with fact witnesses to develop cases, worked closely with expert witnesses to draft expert reports, managed discovery in complex cases, conducted and defended depositions, and prepared witnesses for trial testimony.

Additionally, Tony has represented companies in cases involving medical devices, telecommunications, security equipment, ATMs, manufacturing machinery, and large-scale industrial matting. Tony’s practice also includes experience before the U.S. Patent Trial Appeal Board in Inter Partes Review (IPR) proceedings.

Before law school, Tony was a Yield Enhancement Engineer at Samsung Semiconductor in Austin, Texas improving leading-edge DRAM and Flash devices. Specifically, Tony used statistical analysis and knowledge of the semiconductor processing to identify yield loss areas and develop yield-enhancing solutions. While in law school, Tony was a Patent Agent at Texas Tech University’s Office of Technology Commercialization, where he worked with university researchers on patenting a wide range of technologies, including electrical circuits, microfluidic devices, and cloud computing.

Importantly, Tony devotes time to pro bono matters, such as working with the YMCA of Houston to help refugees seek asylum in the U.S.
