Background

Peter J. Devlin held Fish’s top management role as President and CEO from 2000-2020. Under his leadership, the firm solidified its position as the premier global intellectual property law firm, nearly doubling its size and geographic footprint. Mr. Devlin fostered a culture of innovation and teamwork, enabling Fish to lead the industry in offering clients cost savings through fixed and other alternative fee arrangements. Quadrupling its revenue over the past 20 years, Fish has ranked on the Am Law 100 list since 2005 and delivered record financial results in 2019.

Mr. Devlin is a strong supporter of the firm’s pro bono and diversity and inclusion programs. During his term as the firm’s leader, Fish was recognized as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation and earned the Diversity Lab’s top Mansfield 2.0 Certified Plus designation for successfully considering at least 30 percent diverse lawyer representation in current leadership roles and committees. With Mr. Devlin’s support, Fish was one of the 26 inaugural law firms to become Mansfield 1.0 Certified Plus and is participating in the current Mansfield 3.0 program. Fish was named a 2019 “Best Law Firms for Women” by Working Mother magazine for the second consecutive year.

Prior to becoming the firm’s President and CEO, Mr. Devlin provided patent, IP licensing, and due diligence services to clients in the electrical and computer technology, medical device, and software industries. He is admitted to the bar in Massachusetts and registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Mr. Devlin is a member of the Board of Trustees of Clarkson University, where he serves on the Audit Committee and People Priorities Committee.
