Overview

Josh Carrigan focuses his practice on patent litigation, including legal research and litigation strategy development. Josh was previously a summer associate at the firm in 2019 and 2020. He is a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy submarine force.

Prior to his legal career, Josh was a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy, where he served aboard the nuclear attack submarines USS Minnesota (SSN-783) and USS South Dakota (SSN-790). Josh saw South Dakota through its initial construction at Electric Boat Shipyard, including the reactor plant’s initial operation at power. He served in various billets including assistant engineer, assistant weapons officer, operational safety officer, main propulsion assistant, and damage control assistant. Josh continues to serve as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He is the Executive Officer of an Expeditionary Maintenance unit, supporting the submarine tenders USS Emory S. Land and USS Frank Cable homeported in Guam.

Josh lives with his wife and daughter in Alexandria, VA. He is an avid mountain biker and an occasional runner and triathlete, spending as much of his free time outdoors as possible.

Pro bono activities

  • As a veteran and a Navy reservist, Josh is a passionate advocate for veterans, helping clients appeal their claims to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Josh recently helped a veteran client secure a remand to the Board of Veterans Appeals because the VA failed to obtain an adequate medical examination.
