Overview

Helen Baca, Ph.D., helps her clients develop and maximize the value of their intellectual property assets. 

She focuses her practice on patent prosecution and strategic IP counseling, with significant experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications; managing patent portfolios; conducting due diligence; negotiating and facilitating IP transactions; and advising on landscape, validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate matters. She works closely with her clients to gain a firm understanding of their corporate, business, and technical objectives so that she can align their IP strategies for maximum impact.

With a Ph.D. and extensive research experience in chemistry, Helen is adept at understanding and navigating technical advances in diverse scientific and engineering fields. She is well-versed in a range of technologies, including chemical and biological materials, small-molecule and protein therapeutics, nucleic acid and peptide technology, drug formulations, drug delivery systems, drug discovery platforms, microfluidics, droplet-based systems, medical devices, memristors, photonic systems, and microresonators. Her work has been published in numerous scientific journals, and she is a named inventor on 11 issued patents and patent applications.

Prior to joining Fish, Helen was senior IP/patent attorney at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Livermore, California, as well as of counsel at an intellectual property law firm in the San Francisco Bay Area.
