About F. Clayton

F. Clayton (Clay) Faries is of counsel in the Houston office of Fish & Richardson P.C. His practice focuses on both domestic and international patent prosecution with an emphasis in the chemical industry including chemical processes. Mr. Faries has broad expertise in chemicals, specializing in polyolefin and other polymers. Technology areas of his practice also include computer hardware and software, process controls, medical devices, power supply, and mechanical systems.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Faries was an intern in the Texas Court of Appeals for the First District. Prior to attending law school, he was a process engineer in the petrochemical industry for 12 years. His technical focus included fluid flow, heat transfer, and pressure relief. His product focus included polyefin, including managing the day-to-day operation of polypropylene production. Mr. Faries also supported the startup of a polypropylene production line for a licensee in China.
