About Alana

Alana Mannigé is an associate experienced in litigating a variety of claims, including patent infringement (including Hatch-Waxman claims), trade secret misappropriation, trademark infringement, breach of contract, antitrust violations, fraud, and other types of claims.  Ms. Mannigé’s practice also spans a variety of industries, from pharmaceuticals to cybersecurity.

Ms. Mannigé has experience with all stages of litigation, including drafting pleadings, drafting fact discovery requests and responses, taking of and preparing for depositions, working with experts, drafting dispositive motions, mediation, and trial.  Additionally, Ms. Mannigé has had significant roles in drafting numerous appellate briefs.  Ms. Mannigé has also been actively involved in IPR/PGR matters before the Patent Trial & Appeal Board, and has patent prosecution experience, including drafting patent applications and responding to office actions.

Prior to joining Fish, Ms. Mannigé was a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office where she examined patent applications in various technical areas, including bioinformatics and medical devices. Ms. Mannigé also worked as a Senior Bioinformatics Associate Scientist at the biotech company Ensemble Therapeutics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she helped streamline the company’s high-throughput sequencing analysis algorithms.

During law school, Ms. Mannigé served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Judge James Donato of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Ms. Mannigé was a Senior Articles Editor for the Hastings Science Technology & Law Journal, and also worked closely with biotech startup companies as part of her work at the UC Hastings Startup Legal Garage. Additionally, she was a coach for the UC Hastings Alternative Dispute Resolution Team (Environmental Law Competition). Ms. Mannige earned CALI and/or Witkin Awards for being the top student in a variety of courses, including Patent Litigation, Patent Prosecution, Patents and Trade Secret Law, and Current Topics in Patent Law.

During undergraduate and graduate school, Ms. Mannige studied protein structure and function (particularly amyloid proteins) using computational chemistry techniques, such as molecular dynamics simulations.

Ms. Mannigé is actively involved in pro bono work. In particular, she has participated in pro bono patent prosecution through the Federal Circuit Bar Association and has worked on cases and projects involving voting rights, housing discrimination, and federal scientific integrity policies.
