Background

Michelle Parsons specializes in trademark, copyright, technology, and entertainment law. She is a forceful advocate and tenacious negotiator for clients, large and small, with different risk tolerance levels. She learns her clients’ businesses, products, and services inside out and as a result has become an astute online gamer, mobile phone user, social networker, marketing maven, pharmaceutical identifier, and petroleum industry insider. She provides her clients with long-term cost-efficient strategies and supports them with tools to reduce future risks.

Ms. Parsons has a technical degree in computer science and began her career as a software engineer. She put her technical background to use for software startups and app developers, and has since used that knowledge across the board, as all clients are now encountering IP issues that have a technology component. She is the social media lead at the firm and develops highly-effective, streamlined takedown solutions so that clients can quickly enforce their IP across multiple platforms.

Ms. Parsons is experienced in all aspects of trademark practice, including worldwide strategic counseling, prosecution, enforcement, TTAB (and other TMO) proceedings, and litigation. She regularly manages large-scale international brand launches. She negotiates worldwide settlements whenever possible to prevent piecemeal resolutions. Ms. Parsons flags copyright issues in new products and advises clients on long-term strategies that best protect their creative works. She also negotiates license agreements and deals for clients that are crossing industries or creating partnerships.

In her early career, she worked extensively in the entertainment industry interning in the business and legal affairs at MTV Networks, Fox Television Studios, Sony Pictures Television International, and Universal Pictures and later worked in patent litigation at Google. Her breadth of experience enables her to handle the day-to-day activities of a large portfolio of clients, including start-up to multinational computer hardware and software companies, real estate developers, biopharmaceutical companies, oil conglomerates, fashion empires, and artists.

Ms. Parsons is an active participant in the 2016 Wilpower Program of Leading Women in Technology. She was also recently on the Board of the Parent’s Club of Palo Alto and Menlo Park. When not working, she loves to run and travel with her son.
