Fish & Richardson is the #1 Law Firm at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) for 2017 according to Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) magazine - retaining its #1 ranking from 2016.

Fish represented petitioners and patent owners in 171 proceedings handling 32 more PTAB cases than its closest competitor. Fish is also the most active firm representing patent owners at the PTAB, with 97 proceedings 29 more than the second place firm.

Karl Renner, principal and co-chair of Fish's Post-Grant Practice Group, was the most active attorney at the PTAB overall in 2017, appearing in 76 proceedings. Jeremy Monaldo was also among the most active attorneys, appearing in 47 proceedings. Fish attorneys ranked as most active in representing patent owners included Michael Kane (37 proceedings), Dorothy Whelan (32 proceedings), and Roberto Devoto (20 proceedings). Michael Hawkins (16 petitions) also made the list of top petitioner attorneys.

This is the fifth year that MIP has ranked the leading PTAB law firms, analyzing data from the Docket Navigator database to determine the top petitioners, patent owners, law firms, and attorneys at the PTAB for petitions filed in 2017. A total of 1,799 petitions were filed at the PTAB in 2017, which was fairly stable compared to the previous two years, but still the busiest year to date.
