Fish & Richardson Strengthens IP Litigation Practice with Former Samsung IP Leader Daniel Shim
Fish & Richardson welcomes Daniel Shim as of counsel, adding further depth and in-house perspective to the firm’s global intellectual property litigation practice. Shim brings more than 20 years of experience leading high-stakes patent litigation and global licensing strategy across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Brazil, and Asia.
Shim joins Fish from Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., where he served as principal legal counsel and group leader, overseeing global IP litigation and advising senior business leaders on enterprise-level risk, litigation strategy, and licensing. In that role, he managed some of the highest stakes litigation matters spanning multiple jurisdictions and worked closely with outside counsel to coordinate strategy across parallel proceedings worldwide.
“Clients today are navigating IP disputes that span multiple jurisdictions, different legal frameworks, and competing business priorities,” said Global Leader of Litigation Corrin Drakulich. “Daniel has operated at the center of that complexity, and his experience will further strengthen our ability to position our clients for successful outcomes in their most significant disputes.”
As of counsel, Shim’s practice will focus on complex, cross-border IP disputes, including standard essential patents and FRAND litigation as well as global licensing matters. He has handled litigation throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Unified Patent Court, Brazil, China, India, and elsewhere in Asia.
“I had the opportunity to work closely with Fish while I was in-house and saw firsthand the strength and skill of the team,” Shim said. “Fish combines deep technical and litigation experience with a highly collaborative, client-focused approach. I’m excited to join a team that I know delivers strong results on complex, high-stakes matters and to help clients navigate the increasingly global nature of IP disputes.”
Shim earned his J.D. from Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He also holds an LL.M. in EU competition law and economics from the Brussels School of Competition and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from Rutgers University.
