Fish & Richardson Adds Patent Strategist Benno Guggenheimer to Patent Practice

Fish & Richardson welcomes Benno Guggenheimer as a principal in its Intellectual Property Practice Group. A patent strategist, former product development engineer, and inventor, Guggenheimer helps companies transform innovation into valuable IP assets. He brings more than 15 years of experience advising leading innovators on patent strategy, portfolio development, and IP counseling across artificial intelligence, software, advanced electronics, medical devices, and automated systems.

Guggenheimer began his career in San Francisco and joins Fish from a Denver-based law firm, where he was a shareholder advising clients on patent strategy, portfolio management, licensing, and prosecution. He serves as a trusted advisor to global technology leaders as well as emerging innovators, helping them build, manage, and make use of their IP assets. Working closely with engineering and business teams, he helps clients identify and protect foundational innovations, manage IP risk, and build patent portfolios aligned with long-term business goals.

Prior to practicing law, Guggenheimer spent nearly a decade in engineering and product development roles, designing technologies in areas including automated systems, optical systems and sensors, and medical devices. An inventor himself, he holds multiple patents and brings firsthand experience developing new technologies to his patent prosecution practice. He earned his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law and holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University.
