Benno Guggenheimer has more than 15 years of experience helping multinational technology companies, emerging enterprises, and innovative startups build and manage strategically valuable patent portfolios. A former product engineer, Benno is known for providing practical, business-focused advice that helps clients protect core innovations and navigate complex intellectual property challenges. 

Benno's practice spans a broad range of cutting-edge technologies, including software, artificial intelligence, electronic devices, medical devices, and automated systems. He has managed multiple portfolios exceeding 1,000 patents, including one that protects market-leading smartphones and wearable devices for a Fortune 100 company and another that supports a global software company’s innovations in AI. Regardless of the client’s size or industry, Benno works closely with inventors, engineers, and business leaders to develop patent portfolios that align with commercial objectives and support long-term growth.  

Engineering background

Before becoming a patent attorney, Benno worked for over a decade as a product development engineer, creating new technologies in fields including automated systems, optical systems and sensors, and medical devices. An inventor himself, he holds numerous patents and brings firsthand experience in the innovation process to his legal practice. His engineering background enables him to communicate seamlessly with technical teams, understand the realities of product development, and translate complex legal issues into practical guidance for clients.  

Personal interests

Outside of work, Benno enjoys mountain biking and spending time with his wife and two daughters.
