Fish & Richardson Attorney Ricardo Bonilla Named to Texas Lawyer's 2018 "On the Rise" List

Fish & Richardson associate Ricardo Bonilla has been named an On the Rise attorney for 2018 by Texas Lawyer magazine. The award is given to young attorneys who are "impact players in the Texas legal community."

Bonilla focuses his practice on patent litigation, and has won many high-stakes cases in state and federal courts. In 2017, he led and won a Federal Circuit affirmance of almost $1 million in attorneys' fees for Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. In another case, he helped end EMG Technology's nine-year run of litigation against over 100 defendants by convincing a federal court to invalidate two patents related to a navigation interface for mobile websites. He is also responsible for several other cases over the last year that resulted in complete wins for Fish's clients along with awards of attorneys' fees, including Opal Run LLC v. Overnightprints, Inc. and Cellspin Soft, Inc. v. Fossil Group, Inc. et al.

Bonilla recently completed a full-time, three-month term as an assistant district attorney through the Dallas County District Attorney's Office Lawyer on Loan Program. He currently serves as a Dallas City Lead for the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), where he pairs diverse, first-year law school students with mentors. He is also on the Dallas Bar Association's Minority Participation Committee and on the Mock Trial Committee, which organizes the Texas High School Mock Trial Competition.

At Fish, Bonilla co-chairs Lawtinos, the firm's Latino Affinity Group. He is also one of two Fish attorneys selected to participate in the LCLD 2018 Pathfinder Program, which provides diverse, high-potential, early-career attorneys with critical professional development skills.

Bonilla received his J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, Order of Barristers, National Order of Scribes, from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2012 and his B.S., cum laude, in software engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2009.
