USPTO Publishes New Examination Guide for Service Marks

On September 15, 2014 the USPTO published a new examination guide devoted to service mark specimens. Examination Guide 3-14 reviews the requirements for service mark specimens, discusses issues that frequently arise when specimens are refused, and addresses specimens commonly submitted in connection with "modern technology-related services."
While the guide pertains to specimens for all types of service marks, it is particularly informative for mark owners using service marks on the Internet and with mobile applications, including software applications for smartphones and computer tablets. The new examination guide for service marks can be found be found on the USPTO website.
