Fish & Richardson has selected two firm principals for significant leadership positions: Dr. Moritz Ammelburg has been named the office managing principal of the firm’s Munich office, and Nitika Fiorella has been appointed managing group leader of the Litigation Practice Group. These appointments underscore Fish’s commitment to advancing its global strategy and investing in the professional development of attorneys across its international platform.

Munich Leadership Transition

Principal Dr. Moritz Ammelburg will lead Fish’s Munich office, the firm’s European hub for integrated IP counseling. In this role, Ammelburg will provide strategic leadership and oversee day-to-day operations while fostering a collaborative and thriving office culture. He succeeds Principal J. Patrick Finn III, Ph.D., whose five-year tenure included spearheading a comprehensive redesign and renovation to modernize the office.

Ammelburg is a seasoned patent attorney with deep experience in European patent prosecution and post-grant proceedings. He has represented clients in complex disputes before the European Patent Office (EPO) involving innovations in the life sciences. With a doctorate in biochemistry, Ammelburg’s practice focuses on pharmaceuticals, biotech, and diagnostics.

“Moritz is an exceptional leader with a proven ability to navigate Europe’s evolving IP landscape,” said John Adkisson, president and chief executive officer. “His vision and commitment to collaboration will further strengthen our Munich office, navigating complex IP issues worldwide.”

Under Ammelburg’s leadership, the Munich office, which is home to 14 legal professionals, will continue to provide clients with seamless coordination of global IP strategies. The office’s proximity to the EPO and the Unified Patent Court enables Fish to deliver strategic counseling on Unitary Patents and EU-wide trademark protection.

In this role, Fiorella will focus on advancing the professional growth and skill development of attorneys across the firm’s 200+ member litigation team, with a particular emphasis on early-career lawyers.
