Fish & Richardson has received top “Band 1” national rankings for its Intellectual Property (IP) practice and its International Trade Commission (ITC) patent litigation practice in the 2017 edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. According to Chambers, Fish has a “stellar litigation group that continues to be among the most prolific in trial, appellate and administrative patent proceedings, and supplemented by a stable of lawyers providing prosecution and transactional support.” The firm is also known for “boasting (a) deep and varied experience of ITC practices and admired for notable trial successes” and “continues to impress with its handling of ITC investigations for a number of the nation’s leading brands.”

Fish also received top band rankings for its regional IP practices in California, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, and Texas. Eleven Fish attorneys – Juanita Brooks, Ruffin Cordell, Michael Florey, Christopher Green, DJ Healey, Thad Kodish, William Marsden, Jr., Douglas McCann, Michael McKeon, Frank Porcelli, and Frank Scherkenbach – were also selected for inclusion in the directory as leaders in their practice areas.

The Chambers research team conducted in-depth interviews with thousands of clients and lawyers across the country. An elite “Band 1” ranking means that Fish and its attorneys stood out for their practice strength, legal knowledge and experience, ability, effectiveness, quality of recent work, and client service.

Fish’s global IP practice provides strategic counseling, litigation, and prosecution for clients ranging from startups to multinational corporations to world-renowned academic and research institutions. Fish’s world-class ITC team includes 21 principals who have led hundreds of ITC patent cases, many of which have helped define IP law at the ITC and beyond. In 2016, Fish handled 11 ITC cases, which represents 20% of all active cases at this forum, making Fish the busiest national firm practicing at the ITC.

Chambers is considered to be the most reputable legal directory in the world because inclusion is based solely on the findings of its research team. The rankings data is culled from in-depth interviews with clients and lawyers across the country. Ranking criteria include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by the client. Law firms and individual lawyers are ranked in bands from 1-6, with 1 being the best.
