Profiles in Leadership Journal  Recognizes Two Fish & Richardson Principals as “Women Worth Watching in STEAM” 

Profiles in Leadership Journal has included Principals Crystal Culhane and Excylyn Hardin-Smith in its 2025 list of "Women Worth Watching in STEAM,” which recognizes exceptional women “who embody both talent and leadership” in their careers in STEAM fields. The journal notes, “These trailblazers are visionary, confident, and forward-thinking leaders who drive innovation and create lasting value within their organizations and industries.” 

Culhane applies her extensive academic background in organic chemistry to the practice of patent prosecution in the areas of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, oil and gas, food and beverage, and medical devices. Holding a Ph.D. in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University, she works with clients ranging from start-ups to universities and multinational organizations, including handling high-impact patent prosecution for a number of pharmaceutical clients. In her pro bono practice, Culhane works alongside Casa Cornelia to represent victims of violence. 

Hardin-Smith helps clients resolve complex patent litigation and trade secret disputes, advocating for her clients both inside and outside the courtroom. Known as a dynamic presenter and a skilled case manager and strategist, she has played a key role in many impactful litigation matters spanning diverse technologies and industries, from financial services and software to health and life sciences innovations. Outside of her work for intellectual property clients, Hardin-Smith maintains an active pro bono practice that spans criminal justice, employment law, civil rights, voting rights, and women’s rights.
