NTIA and ITA Initiate Review of Information Privacy Issues

As part of the U.S. government’s increasing focus on privacy issues associated with broadband-based technologies and services, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the International Trade Administration (ITA) have announced a joint public meeting to discuss the nexus between privacy policy and innovation in the internet economy. The agencies are also expected to issue a public Notice of Inquiry (NOI) as part of this policy initiative.

NTIA and ITA are part of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s newly created Internet Policy Task Force, which has been tasked with identifying the leading public policy and operational challenges in the internet environment.

The meeting is scheduled for May 7, 2010, in Washington, D.C., and will also be simulcast on the NTIA’s website.
