Standard essential patent (SEP) prosecution, portfolio management, licensing, and litigation are taking an increasingly prominent role in many companies’ patent strategies as devices become more connected and consumers demand greater interoperability. But as a developing area of law, the SEP landscape shifts quickly, requiring both SEP owners and implementers to track the latest developments to remain competitive.
On December 17, please join Principals Benjamin Elacqua, Scott Flanz, and Ayan Roy-Chowdhury for an overview of SEP law and policy in 2025. Our hosts will cover the following topics and more:
- U.S. developments, including an uptick in Wi-Fi 6 litigation and the tools available to parties in SEP litigations, both offensively and defensively
- Global developments, including how the Unified Patent Court and courts in Germany and the UK continue to be regular stops for SEP litigation, the end of "hold-out" as a strategy, and the use of security deposits or interim fees during litigation
- Portfolio strategies for emerging standards, including how patent prosecution is evolving, strategies for building valuable portfolios in emerging standards (e.g., 6G, Wi-Fi 8, and charging standards), and tips for using new tools like artificial intelligence-based tools to get there faster
