Overview

Caitlin Dean helps clients resolve complex intellectual property disputes in venues including U.S. District Courts, the International Trade Commission, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. 

Caitlin’s practice spans a wide range of industries, including consumer products, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, computer software and hardware, and energy. She has experience in all phases of litigation from pre-suit diligence to post-trial briefing, including drafting initial pleadings, managing fact and expert discovery, taking and defending depositions, preparing witnesses to testify, arguing discovery motions and claim construction hearings, and representing clients at trial. Caitlin also maintains a robust pro bono practice.

While earning her J.D. at Michigan Law, Caitlin was the editor-in-chief of the Michigan Journal of Environmental and Administrative Law and a research supervisor for Professor David Uhlmann.

Before beginning her legal career, Caitlin was a member of the Rubenstein Lab at Columbia University and conducted lab and field-based research in Peru, Nicaragua, Kenya, and Mexico on topics ranging from animal behavior to epigenetics and bioacoustics. She also studied the epidemiology of adult brain tumors at Moffitt Cancer Center.

Caitlin is known for saying that just about anywhere is within “walking distance” and is passionate about the great outdoors, good food, and the simple joy of a fresh-brewed cup of coffee.
