Fish & Richardson Named #1 Powerhouse Firm for Complex Patent Work

Fish also ranks #1 in the "Go To IP Firms" and "Most Favored IP Boutique" categories

Boston, MA, July 9, 2014 - Fish & Richardson today announced that it has been named the #1 law firm that general counsel rely on for "Complex Patent Work" according to BTI Consulting Group's Intellectual Property Outlook report. Fish topped the list of only five law firms as the "Powerhouse" firm "doing stellar non-litigation IP work," with more mentions than other firm among the Fortune 1000 in-house attorneys that were surveyed.

Non-litigation IP work was defined primarily as the work involved in getting a patent or trademark and "the firms on the list have mastered the art of representing clients at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office."

Fish is the leading firm handling post-grant proceedings at the USPTO, having represented clients in more than 140 inter partes review and covered business method matters. "Fish is uniquely suited for post-grant work due to the tight integration of our prosecution and litigation practices. No firm does this better than Fish," said John Hayden, Patent Practice Group Leader at Fish & Richardson. "The breadth and depth of our legal and technical expertise is unparalleled. We take pride in obtaining patents that further our clients' business objectives."

"The firms that are best at patent prosecution have a clear understanding of their clients' business and how clients intend to use their patents, which allows the firms to do a better job gaining an appropriate level of protection," said BTI President Michael Rynowecer. "Most companies that are getting patents are getting numerous patents, and the standout firms have a close relationship with their clients that allows them to know how all the patents fit together."

Fish also ranked #1 in the "Best at Complex IP Litigation," "Go To IP Firms," "Go To IP Litigation Firms," and "Most Favored IP Boutique" categories, and was included in the list of 12 firms (not ranked) that are "The IP VIPS: Outstanding in all Aspects of IP" offering one-stop-shopping in complex prosecution, litigation and licensing work.

BTI Consulting Group's research included interviews with over 175 general counsel and IP decision makers at Fortune 1000 companies between December 2013 and June 2014.
