New Of Counsel Augments Fish & Richardson’s Growing Chicago Office

Intellectual property attorney Kwangho (James) Jang has joined Fish & Richardson as of counsel in its recently established Chicago office. Jang has over a decade of experience, and his practice is a unique blend of patent prosecution and counseling as well as litigation, with a focus on technologies spanning medical devices, software, and electrical and mechanical systems.

“Kwangho’s impressive technical background and deep understanding of global patent systems make him a valuable addition to our growing team,” said Global Leader of Patent & Transactional IP John Hayden. “His varied experience and engineering roots align with our firm’s strength in protecting innovation across industries.”

Prior to joining Fish, Jang practiced at Bookoff McAndrews PLLC and K&L Gates LLP, where he managed domestic and international patent portfolios and provided strategic counsel on freedom-to-operate, invalidity, and non-infringement matters. He also gained valuable experience as a judicial intern to the Honorable Kathleen M. O’Malley of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and to the Honorable Susan G. Braden of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.

Prior to beginning his legal career, Jang was a research engineer for one of the world’s most prominent display manufacturers.

Jang earned his Juris Doctorate from The George Washington University Law School, where he served on the staff of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal. He holds both a master’s and bachelor's degree in materials science and engineering from Seoul National University.
