Principal Frank Scherkenbach Named 2015 "IP Client Service All-Star" by GCs from World's Biggest Companies

Boston, MA, February 12, 2015 - Fish & Richardson announced today that Frank E. Scherkenbach, a principal in the firm's Litigation Group, was recently named an "IP Client Service All-Star" by general counsel and other in-house attorneys from some of the world's biggest companies. Scherkenbach was one of only 25 IP attorneys to be included in the prestigious 2015 BTI Client Service All-Star list for delivering superior client service. Scherkenbach was recognized for "having a deep awareness of the interplay between the complicated technical, legal and business issues facing IP clients."

At Fish, Scherkenbach specializes in complex high technology litigation, with particular expertise in computer software, semiconductors, and medical devices. He also practices before the International Trade Commission and regularly handles appeals to the Federal Circuit.

"We are very focused on the client's strategic objectives, which often requires making the decision not to get caught up in lawyering for the sake of lawyering," said Scherkenbach. "I'm also big on candor and open lines of communication; being transparent with clients I think makes them more comfortable being open with me and, as in any relationship, communication is key."

Inclusion in the 2015 BTI Client Service All-Star list is based solely on direct feedback from over 300 corporate "legal decision makers" at companies with revenue over $1 billion. Law firms and their attorneys have no influence on these rankings. According to BTI, this year's 2015 BTI Client Service All-Stars were singled out for their focus on client needs, thought leadership, business understanding, legal skills, good value for cost, and legal results.

In an article in Law360, BTI President Michael Rynowecer noted that, "Especially in IP, these All-Stars are very good at bringing a business understanding, as well as a technical understanding, and then meshing those two areas together for clients. Being able to understand the role of a particular piece of IP - the role the patent may play in their business, for instance - adds tremendous value for the client. One thing that stands out about these IP All-Stars is that ...they're very good at going back into their firms and putting together a team that fits perfectly for clients."
