Fish & Richardson received top “Band 1” rankings in the U.S. for its Patent and International Trade Commission (ITC) practices in the Chambers Global 2020 rankings. The “Band 1” designation is the highest ranking possible and means that Fish has been identified as among the world’s best law firms based on in-depth, objective research with thousands of lawyers and clients. Four Fish principals – Juanita Brooks, Ruffin Cordell, Michael McKeon, and DJ Healey – received top Band rankings in the Patent IP category. Cordell and McKeon also received Band 1 rankings in the International Trade IP (ITC) category.

Chambers noted that Brooks “is held in high regard for extensive experience handling a range of complex patent infringement disputes.” Clients refer to her as “the Judge Whisperer because they will always listen to her…she owns the courtroom.” Cordell was recognized for his “substantial ITC and district court experience” and sources said he is “a fantastic trial lawyer who gets the excellent, really high-profile cases.” Healey was singled out as “a go-to for big strategy thinking” and for her “ability to outthink everybody.” The “impressive” McKeon “is a seasoned litigator” known “for his skill across a broad array of technology sector intellectual property disputes” and “his strength in ITC matters.”

Fish’s global IP patent litigation practice provides strategic counseling, litigation and prosecution for clients ranging from startups to multinational corporations to world-renowned academic and research institutions. No firm in the world can match Fish’s winning track record in intellectual property trials – in district court, at the ITC and at the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. In 2019, Fish won 13 patent cases in district courts and 13 patent cases at the Federal Circuit (including four precedential wins), and resolved 414 other patent cases. Fish has been the most active firm at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) for the past four years. The firm’s world-class ITC team handled nearly 9% of all new ITC patent investigations in 2019 and has been involved in more than 135 ITC investigations since 2000.
