American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) 2023 Mid-Winter Institute

Fish & Richardson associate Adi Williams will moderate two panels at the AIPLA 2023 Mid-Winter Institute on February 2, 2023, beginning at 9:00 a.m. PT.
 
Fish is proud to support the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), which provides a forum for practitioners in private and corporate practice, in government service, and in the academic community to maintain a high standard of professional ethics, to aid in the improvement of laws relating to intellectual property and their proper interpretation by the courts, and to provide legal education on intellectual property issues to the public and to its members.
 
Session 1: Protecting Pro Sports: IP Challenges and Opportunities for Pro Athletes, Teams

This program will provide an overview of the IP issues confronted in pro sports from the perspective of a professional athlete and a professional sports team. Topics include branding, marketing, licensing, trademark protection, and more.

Session 2: Revolutionizing Participation: Challenges for the Everyday Athlete and the Innovation that "Drives" the Community
Thursday, February 2, 2023 | 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. PT
 
This program will address the technology that has revolutionized participation sports such as running, cycling, swimming, and triathlon, and it will include a demonstration of devices, sensors, software, and data that drive these sports. Panelists will discuss IP issues — such as patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright — which surround protection and enforcement. They will also discuss some of the data privacy/data protection issues associated with all of the data being collected, transmitted, and stored during these sports.
