Shelby Farrand concentrates her practice on trademark, copyright, and patent litigation, representing clients in district and appellate courts. She has experience handling every stage of litigation, from conducting pre-suit investigations todefending and preparing witnesses for depositions, drafting and responding to written discovery, and preparing trial materials.
Shelby has significant drafting experience across multiple forums, including district courts, the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She has drafted dispositive motions in trademark, copyright, and patent cases and authored appellate briefs addressing complex issues of intellectual property and procedure. She has also drafted inter partes review petitions and briefs before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, giving her insight into parallel proceedings that often accompany IP disputes. Her written advocacy reflects a focus on clear, persuasive briefing tailored to each stage of litigation.
During her judicial internship with the Hon. Lynn N. Hughes of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, Shelby drafted judicial orders and opinions on dispositive motions, prepared bench memoranda, and observed the day-to-day workings of civil and criminal proceedings — experience that informs her practical understanding of courtroom advocacy.
Before law school, Shelby worked in supply chain and manufacturing operations for a major brewing company, where she developed an appreciation for the business implications of litigation strategy.
Outside the courtroom, Shelby enjoys visiting art museums, watching NFL football, and spending time with her dogs, Ralph and Lola.
