Overview

Kalyan Goswami, Ph.D., applies his deep expertise in video processing and compression technology to support patent prosecution for computer science-related innovations.

Kalyan's areas of technical proficiency include modern video compression techniques such as high-efficiency video coding (HEVC) and H.264/AVC; video encoding and transcoding; image and video quality; computer vision and information theory; machine learning; and programming languages including C/C++, Python, Java, and VHDL.

Before joining Fish & Richardson, Kalyan built extensive industry experience in video algorithm engineering. As an image signal processing engineer for Johnson & Johnson, he developed an image-processing pipeline for surgical robots. He also worked in a research and development lab to develop patentable solutions that improve the efficiency of video compression and transport systems.

While completing his Ph.D. in computer engineering at Sun Moon University in South Korea, Kalyan applied machine learning-based approaches to design fast algorithms in an HEVC encoder. His post-doctoral research involved contributing to a research and development team for video quality assessment, including formulating an HEVC encoder to ensure visual quality with limited bandwidth constraints.
