Alyaman Amer’s practice encompasses the full patent lifecycle, from prosecution and strategy through post-grant review and district court litigation.
In his extensive litigation practice, Alyaman has represented clients across a broad range of electrical and software technologies, and on various issues, like open source and trade secrets. His litigation work is heavily informed by his deep background in prosecution, which provides insights into the intentions behind a drafted patent and enables him to spot areas of concern within patent claims under dispute.
Alyaman’s prosecution practice is focused on portfolios directed to telecommunications/wireless communications, such as 5G NR and Bluetooth. He is also involved in the pre-suit due diligence, post-grant review, and patent opinions of standard essential patents (SEPs) that relate to these technologies. In one notable, long-term representation, he has helped a Fortune 100 company build out an industry-leading wireless and cellular technology portfolio following a high-profile acquisition. Alyaman also leads a team conducting ongoing patent due diligence for a Fortune 100 client to develop a strategically robust wireless and integrated chip design portfolio for licensing and enforcement.
Alyaman has also represented clients on a wide range of other technical issues, including artificial intelligence (AI), oil and gas drilling, computer architecture, mobile applications, robotics, autonomous vehicles, image analysis and compression, machine-learning algorithms, semiconductor design and fabrication, and battery technology.
Alyaman is fluent in Arabic and previously held an engineering position at a telecommunications company in Dubai. He regularly visits the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, to provide thought leadership and CLE presentations.
In addition to his IP practice, Amer serves as co-chair of SAME, Fish’s South Asian and Middle Eastern affinity group. He also maintains an active pro bono practice, working with the Texas Defender Service to help incarcerated women prepare for parole hearings.
