Fish & Richardson Principal Eric Schulman was named a 2020 “California Trailblazer” by The Recorder in recognition of his past innovative accomplishments as well as his current work at the forefront of emerging areas of intellectual property law.

For only the second time, the California-based legal publication recognized attorneys for their impacts on law, policy and technology. Schulman, based in Fish’s Silicon Valley office, is blazing new legal trails around quantum computing, artificial intelligence, robotics, medical imaging and blockchain technology. “Bringing cutting-edge patent strategy to those technologies is a really interesting and new area,” Schulman told The Recorder for its special California Trailblazers section, published October 1, 2020.

The Recorder also noted Schulman’s previous work at Google — specifically founding the License on Transfer Network. The collaborative community of patent owners reduces patent troll issues for its members by providing them an automatic, free license to the covered patents when they are acquired by a patent assertion entity. Today, the LOT Network covers about 2.3 million patents and has 623 member companies.
