Veteran IP Attorney Nathan Stacy Rejoins Fish & Richardson’s Houston Office

Intellectual property attorney Nathan Stacy has rejoined Fish & Richardson as of counsel in its Houston office. With more than 15 years of legal experience, Stacy advises clients on the procurement and management of intellectual property, with a focus on patent and trademark prosecution. His practice centers on energy, chemicals, electrical, and computer technology.

“Nathan’s strong scientific foundation and extensive experience make him a valuable member of our team,” said Global Head of Patent & Transactional IP John Hayden. “We’re thrilled to welcome him back to Fish.”

Prior to his initial tenure at Fish from 2019 to 2024, Stacy was a partner at International IP Law Group, where he led attorney teams and advised clients on global patent strategy, prosecution, and freedom-to-operate issues.

Before beginning his legal career, Stacy spent 16 years as a chemist and researcher in the chemical and polymer industries. He is a named inventor on 22 U.S. patents and has authored a range of scientific and legal publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and a legal commentary.

Stacy earned his J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law, where he served as articles editor of the Tulsa Journal of Comparative and International Law. He holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Purdue University, where he also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship.
