Fish & Richardson Sweeps Managing Intellectual Property's "Tier 1" National IP Rankings for Fifth Year in a Row

Fish named "Patent Contentious Firm of the Year" in 2015

Boston, MA, May 13, 2015 - Fish & Richardson has received "Tier 1" IP rankings in every national category - Patent Prosecution, Patent Litigation, Life Sciences, and ITC - in Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) magazine's annual ranking of the top IP law firms in the U.S. This is the fifth year in a row that Fish has swept the Tier 1 national U.S. rankings. Fish also received a national "Tier 1" ranking in the PTAB Litigation category, which is new this year, and top tier rankings in the Trademark Prosecution, Trademark Contentious, and Copyright categories.

Earlier this year, MIP named Fish the "Patent Contentious Law Firm of the Year" in the U.S. for its "outstanding" patent litigation work.

In interviews with MIP, one client stated that, "Fish & Richardson is absolutely one of the best. They are unparalleled in the combination of client responsiveness, service, and the quality of work product. They are truly best in class…." A competitor called Fish "always a force to be reckoned with."

According to MIP, Fish "remains in the top tier as one of the most successful IP-focused outfits in the country. Its attorneys contribute deep insight and expertise to the general practice and are fully capable of handling high-stakes patent, trademark, and copyright litigation in addition to their abilities with patent prosecution, licensing, and counseling." The publication noted that in 2014, Fish filed nearly 5,000 patent applications in the U.S., and more than 3,500 abroad. In addition, the firm filed nearly 1,300 U.S. and foreign trademarks.

"It is an honor to receive such high praise from our clients and colleagues, and to be recognized for five straight years as the top Tier 1 firm in every national IP category," said Peter J. Devlin, President of Fish & Richardson. "Fish has a proven record of delivering value, efficiency, innovation, and most importantly, winning results for our clients. It is great to see that reflected in these rankings."

MIP's survey is based on extensive research and interviews with both law firms and clients worldwide in more than 80 jurisdictions. Based on this research, firms are ranked in tiers in each category in each jurisdiction. The tiers reflect the perception of the leading firms in each market with the top tier listing those firms regarded as having the strongest practices in each category. The research was conducted between September 2014 and January 2015.

Founded in 1990, MIP is an international magazine for in-house IP counsel and a leading source of news and analysis on all IP developments worldwide. This is the twenty-second year that MIP has published its annual international IP survey.
