Background

Michael A. Jandron, Ph.D., is a Technology Specialist in the Boston office of Fish & Richardson. His practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution in the robotics, medical devices, and academic research industries. Dr. Jandron received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Solid Mechanics from Brown University. He also holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island.

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Jandron was a mechanical engineer with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Rhode Island, where he was responsible for the design, testing, and analysis of undersea vehicles. His design work included vibration isolation systems, gyroscopes, and control mechanisms, while his analysis work included mission planning, structural simulations, and noise and vibration assessments. Additionally, Dr. Jandron was heavily involved in basic and applied research, including new algorithms for linear solvers, new optical sensors, and leading the physics-based modeling of water skipping spheres, which received press coverage and was published in Nature. His Ph.D. work at Brown University was related to mechanical metamaterials where elastic wave propagation properties can be manipulated in soft composites, while his M.S. research at Brown University was related to new computational methods of structural-acoustics simulations. Dr. Jandron’s Ph.D. work also won Best Poster and the NUWC 2017 Best Research of the Year award. Additionally, his graduate research was funded through several NUWC fellowship awards.  Prior to NUWC, he served as an engineering intern at KVH Industries, Inc., focusing on consumer products in telecommunications.
