Garett Padilla prosecutes patents for life sciences and biotech innovations, advises on patent landscape, and conducts freedom-to-operate, due diligence, and patent portfolio analysis.

Garett is well-versed in molecular biology, cellular biology, genetics, cancer therapies, biomarkers, biochemistry, and genomics. He has advised on a wide variety of inventions and helped clients build strong patent portfolios to enhance their market positions and withstand competitor challenges. In counseling clients on patentability issues, Garett finds ways to avoid infringement, writing  clients’ patent applications to acquire the necessary protections without infringing the patent rights of others.

Before he joined Fish & Richardson, Garett worked as a patent search and analytics vendor for five years and was a law clerk in the civil division of the Hennepin County Attorney's Office in Minnesota. Garett earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with an emphasis on genetics, cellular, and developmental biology from Macalester College and a master’s degree in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
