Fish & Richardson is proud to announce that Principal Crystal Culhane, Ph.D. was recognized at Casa Cornelia Law Center’s 15th Annual La Mancha Awards.

Culhane was honored with the Pro Bono Publico award for her commitment to advocating for victims in the immigrant community who are victims of domestic violence.

Culhane is currently in the midst of her third case, assisting her client with securing a U visa so that she can legally remain in the country and separate from her abusive husband, who is an American citizen. The legal process is slow and often challenging to navigate, but Culhane imparts a compassion-centered approach while working with her clients.

“In these cases, it’s equally important to be a strong legal advocate as it is to be a supportive partner,” said Culhane. “For me, this pro bono service is hours of my day or week, but for my clients, it’s their entire life, livelihood, safety, and freedom. I am cognizant of the gravity of this work and fortunate that I can play a role in securing a safe future for my clients.”

“Supporting attorneys in pro bono work is an integral part of Fish’s culture,” said Lawrence Kolodney, chair of Fish’s pro bono program. “This year’s pro bono celebration theme, law in everyday life, is reflected in Crystal’s work advocating on behalf of immigrants who seek just that – an everyday life free from fear. I applaud her commitment to serve vulnerable members of the community with compassion.”

Casa Cornelia Law Center is a public interest law firm that provides legal services to victims of human and civil rights violations in Southern California. It seeks to educate constituents about the impact of immigration law and policy on the community and the public good.

Fish is a proud sponsor of Casa Cornelia Law Center.
