Sophie Roling advocates for life sciences innovators in intellectual property disputes at the trial court and on appeal.
Sophie previously served as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard G. Taranto of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, gaining firsthand insights and strategic perspective that strengthen her client advocacy. Her legal experience also includes researching and drafting litigation memoranda, conducting prior art searches, and filing trademark applications.
In law school, Sophie was involved in the intellectual property community, serving as an editor-in-chief of the Journal of Law & Innovation and on the board of the Penn Intellectual Property Group. She received the Herbert F. Schwartz Award for Achievement in Intellectual Property and Technology Law. Sophie also participated in pro bono work with the Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania, where she helped clients apply for social security benefits. As a former research assistant at the University of Pennsylvania’s Carey Law School and the Perelman School of Medicine, Sophie contributed to scholarship across several fields, including legal policy, technology, and pathology.
In her leisure time, Sophie enjoys reading a good book, walking her dog, and baking.
