Overview

Mingji Jin, Ph.D., helps clients develop, manage, and protect their intellectual property assets across a wide range of electrical, mechanical, and telecommunications technologies. 

In her multifaceted practice, Mingji provides holistic counsel to clients at each stage of the IP lifecycle, from patent drafting and prosecution through all aspects of litigation. She has advocated for clients at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and in district court litigation and International Trade Commission investigations. 

Mingji’s technical expertise spans diverse innovations, with particularly deep experience in the telecommunications sector. Her work for clients has involved: 

  • Wireless and cellular communications, including wireless local area network (WLAN), 4G, and 5G technologies 
  • Semiconductor processing and devices 
  • LED-related displays and chips 
  • Antenna design 
  • Video compression 
  • Acoustic signal processing 
  • Solar energy technologies 
  • Electric vehicles

Before entering the legal profession, Mingji conducted graduate research on the characterization of electrical and magnetic properties of superconductor tunneling junction devices, as well as on the deposition of amorphous semiconducting thin films and characterization of their electrical and optical properties. Her research also extended to biomembrane and protein fusion studies using atomic force microscopy. She is a recipient of the American Heart Association’s post-doctoral fellowship, and the University of Cincinnati recognized her with its Best Thesis Award in Electrical Engineering.
