Kevin Liao, Ph.D., brings deep technical knowledge to complex patent litigation involving computer hardware, software, and related technologies.
Kevin’s litigation experience includes drafting dispositive and evidentiary motions; preparing for depositions and trial; developing legal arguments for Federal Circuit appeals; and shaping strategy for USPTO proceedings, including inter partes review and ex parte reexamination. He also advises clients on emerging issues at the intersection of artificial intelligence and intellectual property. In 2027, he will serve as law clerk to Chief Judge Kimberly A. Moore of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Kevin earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School while completing his Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science at MIT. Before joining MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, he was a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy. His computer science research has appeared in leading peer-reviewed venues in security, privacy, and programming languages. While at Harvard, Kevin earned Dean’s Scholar Prizes in Patent Law and Copyright Law and a Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society Fellowship. He also received a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and a Harvey Fellowship from the 28twelve Foundation while at MIT.
Outside the office, Kevin enjoys training for triathlons, cooking, serving at his local church, and keeping up with his wife and son.
