Overview

Justin Sears, Ph.D., focuses his practice on patent prosecution in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnology industries. In addition to the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, he manages patent portfolios and conducts due diligence, freedom to operate, and landscape reviews.

Prior to joining Fish & Richardson, Justin was an intellectual property practice specialist at another law firm, where he assisted in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications relating to small molecule pharmaceuticals, formulations, polymers, and antibodies.

Justin's scientific experience encompasses synthetic organic chemistry and reaction development, medicinal chemistry, and bioorganic chemistry. During his doctorate training at Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, he studied the mechanism of a biomimetic Fe(III)-promoted coupling reaction employed in the synthesis of clinically relevant chemotherapeutic agents, including vinblastine and vincristine.
