Elsie Layman’s legal work focuses on protecting clients’ intellectual property and resolving litigation disputes.
Elsie has experience in patent, trade secret, trade dress, and copyright litigation. Across these practice areas, she has drafted pleadings, conducted legal research, and written dispositive motions including motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and motions in limine.
Elsie brings her same passion for the law to her pro bono work. She has worked with the University of Illinois College of Law Family Advocacy Clinic and the Champaign County Prosecutor’s Office Abuse and Neglect Department. In both roles she advocated for the safety and welfare of children and families. She has also interned with the Innocence Project, where she represented clients in exoneration cases.
Before law school, Elsie worked as a research scientist with the University of Texas Health Science Center, where she studied the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying autism spectrum disorders.
In addition to her legal work, Elsie enjoys hosting movie nights, painting, and antique hunting.
