David Kempe, Ph.D., assists clients with their patent portfolios and intellectual property strategy for innovations in the chemical arts, including pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, and formulation chemistry.
David holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Texas A&M University. His doctoral research focused on the synthesis of molecular magnets and other paramagnetic molecules, contributing to several peer-reviewed scientific journal articles. He also analyzed data from dozens of single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments, including data sets that he collected during numerous visits to the synchrotron at Argonne National Lab to collect and analyze high intensity X-ray diffraction data.
David formed a deep understanding of the patent lifecycle as a patent agent and scientific analyst at a large international law firm. His practice there helped clients develop patent strategy, conduct complex patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses, draft applications for new technology, and organize global patent prosecution strategy.
After discovering a passion for patent prosecution, David attended law school, where participation in multiple moot court competitions and a summer externship with the Supreme Court of California helped him develop legal research and advocacy skills beyond the classroom.
When he’s not prosecuting patents, David can be found visiting California wine country and organizing game nights.
