Licensing 101

Patent ownership confers many benefits in addition to the right to exclude others from the invention claimed therein, not least of which is the ability to license the patent. Licensing is one of the most effective methods of monetizing intellectual property. Through patent licensing, the owner of a patent is able to retain ownership of its intellectual property assets while generating licensing revenue, gaining access to new markets, and reducing production costs.
