Boston, MA, April 10, 2012 – Adam Kessel, a principal at Fish & Richardson, has been selected by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as a 2012 “Up & Coming Lawyer.”  The award recognizes attorneys who have practiced for 10 years or less and have already distinguished themselves in the practice of law.

At Fish, Mr. Kessel focuses his practice on litigation involving Internet and software-related matters across all areas of intellectual property and related licensing and contractual issues.  He has played an integral role in numerous high-stakes patent litigation cases where a company’s entire business is often on the line, and is currently litigating several cases all over the country involving a variety of patent, copyright, and Internet-related disputes.

Mr. Kessel has worked on several groundbreaking pro bono cases for the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) that have established important legal principles at the intersection of criminal law and computer technology.  Most recently, he helped EFF get a copyright lawsuit case that was threatening an important database of time zone information dismissed.  He also is actively involved with the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, which provides artists with legal advice, and serves as Fish’s leader for the annual “Walk to the Hill” to lobby for civil legal aid.

Mr. Kessel received his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law in 2004 and his B.A. in chemistry from Princeton University in 1998.
