Fish & Richardson principal Juanita Brooks was recently named one of the “Top Women Lawyers” by The Daily Journal. The list recognizes women lawyers throughout California who excel in their practice. Brooks was chosen, in part, because of her well-known ability to simplify complicated scientific processes and connect with jurors.

This past year, Brooks successfully represented Allergan Inc. in a Hatch-Waxman case involving a glaucoma medication in which the judge found all four patents to be valid and infringed. She also successfully represented Fresenius Medical Care N.A. in a patent dispute involving peritoneal dialysis cycler machines and Bank of America Corp in a patent infringement dispute related to check clearing and processing, which resulted in a favorable settlement.

Currently, Brooks has nearly 30 open, active patent cases pending in various districts around the country, with an even mix of plaintiff and defense representation, as well as several Hatch-Waxman cases.

Every year since 1987, Brooks’ peers have voted her as one the Best Lawyers in America. In 2009, she was named to the Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s (MCCA) national list of “Leading Law Firm Rainmakers.” MCCA chose just fourteen attorneys for this honor, and Ms. Brooks is one of four women on the list. She has received numerous other honors, including being named one of California’s top IP attorneys and has been named one of San Diego’s leading lawyers by multiple organizations.
