Boston Lawyers Group (BLG) has announced two upcoming programs designed to assist law students of color hone their skills, network with established members of Boston’s legal community, and advance their legal careers. At the annual “Law School Affinity Group Welcome Dinner,” scheduled for October 16, 2012, BLG will share information about the organization and its programs. “Discovering Your Legal Road Map,” scheduled for October 22, 2012, is an interactive seminar sharing best practices on advancing your legal career. Law students and attorneys are welcome to attend.

“In today’s legal organizations, diversity is not merely ‘nice-to-have,’ it is critical to productivity, growth, and economic prosperity,” said Carolyn Golden Hebsgaard, Executive Director of Boston Lawyers Group. “We look forward to collaborating with Fish & Richardson to host additional forums, roundtable discussions, educational programs, and job fairs, all geared towards promoting diversity within Boston’s legal community.”

BLG recently moved into Fish & Richardson’s Boston office. BLG rotates its location every two years to a different member organization, thus allowing close collaboration to maximize diversity initiatives.

“We are delighted to welcome the BLG to our offices and to continue our support of the mission of achieving greater diversity among Boston law firms and legal departments,” said Timothy French, managing principal of Fish’s Boston office and a member of the firm’s Diversity Committee.

Fish has already hosted a “Summer Soiree” for 90 attorneys including summer associates of color working at BLG member law firms, corporations, and government agencies. Other planned events include “Charting Your Legal Future,” a career development conference where first and second year law school students of color engage in discussions with BLG member attorneys regarding building a successful legal career in Boston.
