Background

​Janis K. Fraser is a scientist-turned-lawyer who specializes in finding practical solutions to the most challenging patent issues that frequently accompany complex biotechnology and pharmaceutical inventions. A Principal in the Boston office of Fish & Richardson P.C., Dr. Fraser has been providing strategic patent advice since 1989 to clients ranging from startup biotech companies to multinational pharmaceutical corporations to academic institutions. She has recently assisted clients in obtaining or defending in reexamination U.S. patents claiming inventions such as genes, gene therapies, recombinant proteins, antibodies, transgenic animals, pharmaceutical compounds and formulations, methods of treatment, antibody libraries, and screening methods. Dr. Fraser has a particular interest in patent issues surrounding personalized medicine and biosimilars. Her expertise extends to due diligence studies and opinions regarding validity and infringement issues.
