Overview

Herbert Kunz, Ph.D., is a European and German patent attorney with a particular focus in mechanics, electronics, software, and medical devices. In addition, Herbert is a qualified European trademark and design attorney and also represents clients at the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Patent Court, the European Patent Office, and the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

Herbert has extensive experience helping clients with intellectual property issues such as patent drafting and prosecution, and his clients range from startup inventors to large global corporations. He also frequently assists with patent opposition and patent litigation matters at the EPO, as well as the German Civil Courts, and is qualified to represent clients at the Federal Supreme Court in nullity proceedings.

Prior to joining Fish, Herbert was a partner in the IP group at Olswang after it merged with his boutique IP firm, Dr. Kunz & Kollegen. He qualified as a German patent attorney in 1997, a European patent attorney in 1999, and in 2001 was one of the first German attorneys to combine his patent experience with his legal expertise to provide an integrated IP service to his clients. Herbert has also been appointed as an honorary judge of the Social Court (Munich).
