Overview

Lawrence Jarvis concentrates his practice on patent litigation in U.S. District Courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission in the areas of electrical engineering and computer science, including set-top box technologies, video coding and processing, cellular and wireless technologies, consumer electronics, information security technologies, database and cloud computing technologies, payment and transaction processing, semiconductor fabrication and layout, chip level power management, and home security system technologies.

His litigation experience includes managing discovery; assisting technical experts with opening and rebuttal reports; taking and defending depositions of fact witnesses, including 30(b)(6) witnesses; taking and defending depositions of expert witnesses; drafting and arguing claim construction positions in court; drafting and arguing dispositive and other non-dispositive motions, including discovery related motions; preparing deposition designations, counter designations, and objections; preparing pretrial disclosures, including deposition designations, counter designations, jury instructions, and voir dire; and putting on a witness at trial, including handling a redirect.

Lawrence has also assisted clients with patent due diligence, patent prosecution, and other non-litigation patent analysis including intellectual property licensing. Lawrence is a patent attorney, registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Prior to joining Fish & Richardson, Lawrence worked for several years as a software engineer for a Fortune 100 corporation, where he gained substantial technical experience developing software for set-top boxes, video compression, application middleware, graphical user interfaces, network security, wireless networks, and video conferencing application codecs. During his time working as a software engineer, Lawrence was also a member of an R&D team focused on the development of HEVC-related video coding algorithms and technology for the companies’ video streaming and playback products. In addition, Lawrence also gained extensive experience developing cellular communication and network management software while working as a software engineer.
