Background

Sara Townsend is a Law Clerk in the litigation group of Fish & Richardson’s Silicon Valley office, and was previously a summer associate of the firm. Her practice focuses on patent litigation. She also has experience in commercial litigation involving business torts and trade secret litigation. Ms. Townsend works pro bono on asylum cases.

Prior to her law career, Ms. Townsend was an environmental policy analyst. She advocated for specific policies by translating complex biological studies and theories into easy to understand language for decision-makers at the local, state and federal level. Ms. Townsend worked for nongovernmental organizations, consulting firms, and as a staffer for California and federal regulatory agencies. She undertook both independent and collaborative research to develop and author numerous policy recommendations aimed at improving the management of marine resources.

While in law school, Ms. Townsend was selected to serve as managing editor of the Santa Clara High Technology Law Journal, and to compete as a member of Santa Clara’s honor moot court team in the California Bar Student Environmental Negotiations Competition.
