In a recent blog post, Joff Wild, IAM Magazine, highlights the importance of using experienced counsel to produce high quality patents which are meticulously constructed, and take into account key business consideration, even when the cost of doing so may be higher. The specific excerpt is included below, along with a link to the full post.

“What is striking when talking both to the firms featured in our rankings and to their clients is the attention to detail that goes into the process of producing a high quality patent. The key stages – the invention disclosure, the outside attorney’s interviews with the inventor and other key staff at the applicant company, the drafting of the claims, the response to the office action – are all handled with great care and attention, and strategic business considerations are permanently at the forefront of everyone’s minds. It all adds up to an expensive operation, but as John Acres, CEO of electronic gaming company Acres 4.0 tells us: “One thing is certain: quality does not arise from putting a patent attorney on a fixed budget for each application.”
