Background

Kia Scipio is the Diversity & Inclusion Manager for Fish & Richardson, and is based in the firm’s Washington D.C. office. Under the direction of Fish’s Chief Professional Development Officer, Ms. Scipio manages the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion initiative, which focuses on embeding diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency into the firm’s day-to-day operations. She is also responsible for planning, developing, and directing strategies to help Fish effectively recruit, develop, and retain its diverse workforce. Ms. Scipio works closely with Fish’s Diversity Committee, EMPOWER Women’s Initiative, and other strategic teams to support the firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Prior to joining Fish, Ms. Scipio served as the Associate Director of Small & Medium Firm Initiatives and Diversity & Inclusion for Georgetown University Law Center’s Office of Career Strategy. In this role, she counseled law students and employers on issues related to diversity and inclusion. Ms. Scipio has also held senior positions at two large Washington, D.C. law firms, where she managed professional development, mentorship and attorney training initiatives. She frequently serves as an Adjunct Professor on a variety of topics related to diversity, inclusion and women leadership initiatives.

Ms. Scipio is an active member of NALP, having chaired the Strategic Planning Taskforce for NALP’s Diversity & Inclusion Section. She also served on the Planning Committee for NALP’s Professional Development Institute. In addition to her involvement with NALP, Ms. Scipio is a former Board Member for the Washington Area Legal Recruitment Administrators Association.
