Overview

Aamir Kazi is an intellectual property litigator and counselor with extensive experience in all major aspects of patent litigation, from pre-suit diligence through trial and post-trial. He also regularly counsels clients on IP diligence.

Aamir has experience litigating in U.S. District Courts around the country and before the U.S. International Trade Commission, and he also has experience managing complex global litigation. Today, Aamir’s practice focuses on issues with standard essential patents and Section 337 investigations. He has been recognized as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers and as one of the Best Lawyers in America in intellectual property by Best Lawyers.

Prior to law school, Aamir was an engineer focused on computer software and systems. He brings to each matter an engineering skillset that allows him to become a master of the technology at issue. He has experience with a wide variety of technologies, including cellular communication standards (e.g., GSM, GPRS, UMTS, LTE), wireless communications technologies (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, 802.15.4), memory standards (e.g., JEDEC, LPDDR), audio and video decoding technologies (e.g., MPEG), and consumer electronics (e.g., televisions, video game consoles, cellular phones, tablets).

Aamir provides pro bono services at the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation and also volunteers his time to a nonprofit focused on improving inner city living conditions.

Experience

Confidential Client (D. Del.) – Defended a software company in a five-patent competitor suit regarding website analytics products. After establishing that two asserted patents claimed ineligible subject matter and invalidating all remaining asserted patent claims before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, obtained a dismissal of all claims with prejudice. 

Confidential Client (W.D. Tex.) Represented a market leading fire safety products manufacturer in a federal district court patent litigation concerning four patents related to connected devices and safety technologies. Resolved on the eve of trial in a favorable settlement.

Confidential Client (ITC, D. Del.) Represented a multinational HVAC company in patent litigation brought in federal district court and the International Trade Commission relating to smart thermostat technology. Won determination of no violation.

Confidential Client (W.D. Tex.) Represented a Fortune 100 consumer electronics company in federal district court patent litigation regarding cellular and transmission technology. Resolved with a favorable settlement.
